What is World Book Day?

World Book Day may have evolved over the years (23 years old this year!). Designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world. It’s the world’s biggest campaign to provide every child in the country with a book of their own.

It’s also a registered charity which uses a range of initiatives to try and help to get even more books directly into the hands of children, especially those who wouldn’t otherwise have access to them. You can find out more about World Book Day here.

What are we currently reading?

As we are based in Manchester, we’ve been finding out more about the history of the city in ‘2000 Years of Manchester’ by Kathryn Coase.

Tracking the development of Manchester since the Roman invasion, to a market town to a new city. This book is packed with interesting stories, some of our myths and legends, and some of the characters and families that have made Manchester over the years.
